Climbing

For thousands of years, these rocks have withstood all weather conditions and silently witnessed the passage of time. It's in human nature to test boundaries and conquer the unconquerable. In recent years, rock climbing has grown increasingly popular — and with good reason: it’s both physically and mentally demanding.

To conquer a wall, you need muscle and focus, but also the ability to find calm in moments of fear. That’s why it's absolutely essential to use the right climbing equipment — helmet, carabiner, rope, harness, and climbing shoes — to ensure your adventure is both safe and memorable for the right reasons.

There are nine routes in total, up to 30 meters high.

The names of the routes are as colorful and playful as the climbs themselves. Some of the highlights include: Vjetruša pjeva (“The Kestrel Sings”) – 16 m, 4b; Strah guštera (“Lizard’s Fear”) – 16 m, 5b; Magarac Škegro (“Škegro the Donkey”) – 18 m, 6b; Prospavana noć (“A Night Well Slept”) – 18 m, 6a; Dva uskrsna jaja (“Two Easter Eggs”) – 17 m, 5b Dead Fox – 30 m, 4c; Godišnji odmor (“Annual Leave”) – 18 m, 6c+; Country Boy – 25 m, 5b; Prvi Gačanski (“The First from Gacka”) – 30 m, 5a

The climbing site Velika Greda is often described as the most thrilling in this part of Croatia.

HOW TO GET TO THE CLIMBING SITE?

ON FOOT
The site is accessible via a hiking trail — a pleasant 40-minute walk. Along the way, you'll enjoy beautiful views of the Drenov Klanac Valley, which will inspire and relax you as you prepare to take on the rock face.

BY CAR
If arriving via the highway from Zagreb or Split, take the Žuta Lokva exit and continue toward Otočac. In Brlog, turn left at the intersection toward Drenov Klanac.

From that turn, drive 2.9 km on a paved road until you reach the highway overpass. Pass underneath and continue straight on the paved road for another 2.2 km, until you reach a small junction where you turn left onto a gravel road.

If your vehicle has sufficient clearance, you can drive another 600 m to the last houses. From there, hike 800 m north toward the visible cliffs to reach the site.
